Dubai
– a City of the Future!
If you thought that Shanghai was in a building boom check
out Dubai. With thousands of constructions cranes in operation
Dubai has become one of the most fascinating cities in the
world to visit.
The emirate of Dubai is one of seven that make up the United
Arab Emirtes (UAE) located in the Persian Gulf and has developed
into the most modern and moderate of Islamic cities in the
world. Local residents do not have to wear traditional Muslim
coverings and foreign women do not have to cover their arms
or legs. English is widely spoken and if you wish to have
a drink, alcohol is readily available.
Currently
there is a construction boom going on and Dubai is quickly
turning into a city more exciting and grandeur than Las Vegas.
New building are not just duplicates of other buildings but
each individually designed as unique pieces of architecture.
With massive oil wealth being accumulated, money is no object.
Take for example, what some are calling the eighth wonder
of the world which consists of four mega projects made of
up the largest man-made islands in the world arranged in the
shapes of palm trees call Palm Jumeirah with 28 hotels and
2000 villas to be completed within the next year plus Palm
Deira, Palms Jebel Ali and 300 private islands.
With temperature of up to 50 C. in summer months, the government
is building a series of air-conditioned bus shelters for those
that do not drive Mercedes. Also an indoor ski facility complete
with chair lifts is expected to attract thousands of skiers
and snowboarders. Who would have imagined in the middle of
the desert. But there is still more to come: Dubailand is
scheduled to rise out of the desert on the outskirts of the
city by 2009 and will be the world’s larges theme park
which will be eight times the size of Disneyland.
The world tallest building in Dubai will be completed in 2008
and the total height of the building is being kept secret
so no other building in the world can beat them.
Dubai, truly the City of the Future!.
